BERNARD BUFFET 1928 – 1999

BERNARD BUFFET was born in Paris , on 10 July 1928.
In 1943 he entered the Paris National School of Fine Arts.
He achieved his first private exhibition in 1947.
At the age of 20 , he won the Art Critic Award. His technique has questioned representational art and has been considered as part of the new" French realism".
In 1955 , the publication "Connaissance des Arts" nominated him"most skillful painter of his generation" (referendum dealing with the10 most skillful painters of the post-war period).
During more than 50 years , he worked out a yearly theme-exhibition in Paris ("nudes" , "circus" ," corrida" , "portrait of Annabel" , "the French Revolution" , …).
He regularly exhibited in New York , Montreal and London. Besides , he created sceneries (opera , ballet , theatre) and illustrated different books (Cocteau , Beaudelaire , Giono…).
