THEO TOBIASSE
THEO TOBIASSE
was born in 1927 in Israel and lived in Lituania until the age
of 4 , then he arrived in France.
He settled down in Nice in 1950.
He had fist been working for ten years as a graphics conceptor
and had experimented different techniques before focussing on
painting in 1959.
In the 1960s , he participated in various exhibitions (Antibes
, Paris , Geneva , Montreal , Tokyo , Denver , New York).
In 1961, he won the Prize of the Young Mediterranean Painting.
In 1969 , he achieved his first collection of 18 lithographs in
connection with the theme of Diaspora.
He travelled much around the world and settled down in 1975 in
Saint-Paul-de-Vence ( French Riviera).
Women and The Bible became the two main themes of his work. In
1982 , he imagined monumental works dedicated to different places
(Palais des Congrès de Nice , Chapelle Saint Sauveur in
Le Cannet , Centre Communautaire Israélite in Strasbourg…).
He started using even more joint techniques and added much relief
to his work
In 1984 , New York became a major theme in his work as well as
his second dwelling place.
Nowadays , his paintings are housed by many museums and collections
in France and abroad.
