Biography
LOUIS TOFFOLI
1907 – 1999
He was born in Triesta ( Italy) on 16 October 1907 of an Italian
father and a Slovenian mother .
He attended an evenig class in the Triesta Academy of Fine Arts
while he was first a blacksmith , then a tailor.
When facism arose in Italy, he was driven to take flight. He
settled down in Paris where he worked for a famous fashion designer
and taught in the local Clothing Trade Union.
In 1934, he decided to live in Charenton-Le-Pont (France ,Val-de-Marne)
and stayed there until he died.
Only after the Second World War he devoted himself to painting
and set up his first personal exhibitions and early travels around
the world ( Yougoslavia , Spain , Brazil , Israel , the USA ,
Mexico , China…) .
He learnt the technique of Lithography from the most skilled
Parisian workshops.
From the 70s on , Louis TOFFOLI has been considered as an acknowledged
painter and his private exhibitions have been moving on worldwide
ever since.
Aubusson weavers have been weaving tapestries inspired from his
paintings since 1976 (about 1500 models) and several films and
TV programmes related to his work have been broadcast .
A museum dedicated to him that houses about one hundred paintings
was inaugurated in 1995 in Charenton -Le-Pont .
Besides , many museums and collections are housing TOFFOLI's
paintings (Germany , Brazil , Spain ,Holland, Israel , the USA
, Portugal… )
